Intro to – and Mission of – HVTBW

HUNTERS VILLAGE/TAPESTRY (HVTBW)

The HVTBW neighborhood runs from Thunderbird Rd on the south to Acoma on the north, from N. 44th Street on the west to Tatum Blvd on the east. Our neighborhood is officially registered as BlockWatch Group #2460 – under the auspices of the City of Phoenix. As such, we are eligible to receive up to $15,000 each year in grant money.  One of our members has generously written and submitted the grant application each year since 2011.  Each year we have been awarded funding for such safety and security devices and hardware as the purchase, installation, and maintenance of solar street lights in areas that need enhanced security (10 lights so far). Those areas had no or low lighting.

“Getting Arizona Interested in Neighborhoods” (G.A.I.N.) is a day for Arizona, similar to National Night Out, to join forces and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. G.A.I.N. showcases the importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer Arizona. On G.A.I.N. day (the third Saturday in October), the Phoenix Police Department invites neighborhoods to come together and make their community a safer, better place to live. The gift bags that our members receive at our annual G.A.I.N. BW meeting are also funded through our grant as well as many other items provided at the three “regular” HVTBW BlockWatch meetings during the year.  If you like to walk or bicycle, please consider signing up for “Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol” (PNP) training. As a trained PNP as you travel through the neighborhood call Phoenix Police non-emergency number when you see suspicious activity. Free PNP training classes are provided by the City of Phoenix. Participants log time spent on patrol, which aids us in receiving grant money.  Each hour spent on a BlockWatch activity (including attendance at BW meetings) gives us a better chance each year to receive the grant funds. Membership in Hunters Village/Tapestry is free; it entails signing the registration form available at every BlockWatch meeting.

BENEFITS TO YOU:

Access To Our Own “Hassle Free” “Ad-Free” Non- “Data Mining” Website – designed and administered by HVTBW member Bob Mitchell.  Only officially registered members of the Hunters Village/Tapestry BlockWatch organization #2460 can access the member-only content, such as online notification of suspicious and or criminal activities, warnings about current crime activities in our neighborhood, resident sex offender activities, and BlockWatch meeting notices, events, and minutes. The HVTBW Captain also emails every registered BW member with relevant informational updates. You will become acquainted with fantastic people, participate in neighborhood BBQs and “street parties,” and help “lost or found” pets to reunite with their owners. Keep current regarding ongoing coyote, javelina, raccoon & fox “issues” and OH so much more!

MISSION STATEMENT

Hunter’s Village/Tapestry neighbors formed the Block Watch in February 2010 after becoming aware that our neighborhood had suffered burglaries, criminal damage, vandalism, theft, and graffiti.  Vigilant neighbors reported “suspicious activities” resulting in 6 perpetrators receiving various consequences including prison sentences, probation terms, and jail. Our goals include “neighborhood preservation,” maintaining our safety, the integrity of our neighborhood and personal property, as well as crime prevention awareness so that our neighborhood remains a safe place for families.  We accomplish this goal by submitting a grant request annually for the purchase of crime prevention materials, supporting our 3 regular BW meetings, the annual GAIN meeting, proactively addressing crime prevention through suggested BlockWatch methods, becoming acquainted with our neighbors, and keeping close contact with our Phoenix Police representatives in the Desert Horizon Precinct. All BW members are also invited to attend monthly Phoenix Block Watch Advisory Board meetings, “Coffee with a Cop” and free City-sponsored training sessions.

No information provided through Block Watch email and our Hunters Village/Tapestry BlockWatch website (www.hvtbw.org) may be forwarded or shared with any other social media platform.

Emails received from the BlockWatch Captain may not be forwarded. You may; however, conduct your own independent research and re-send in your own words using your own personal email account.

Thank you.
