History

Hunter’s Village/Tapestry neighbors bonded together to form the Block Watch in February 2010 after becoming aware that our neighborhood had experienced burglaries, criminal damage, vandalism, theft, and graffiti.  As a result of vigilant neighbors during our first 9+ years, three of these perpetrators were sentenced to prison.  Two others were placed on probation and 2 additional were apprehended and dealt with by authorities.  Several individuals were arrested after their “suspicious behavior” was reported by vigilant BlockWatch neighbors to police. Police arrived, checked ID’s and arrested the suspects on outstanding warrants.

We are officially registered as Block Watch Group #2460 – under the auspices of City of Phoenix. As such, we are eligible to receive up to $10,000 each year in grant money.  Candy Dugdale, one of our members, has generously written and submitted the grant application every year since 2011.  We have been successfully awarded grant funding for the installation of 10 solar street lights in areas that had little to no lighting previously. The “GAIN” bags that our Blockwatch members receive are also funded through our grant, as well as many other items provided at the BW meetings.  Some members have chosen to enroll in the “Phoenix Neighborhood Patrol” (PNP) training program.  These neighborhood patrollers call the police to report suspicious activities during their PNP walk/ride.  A free morning PNP training class is provided by the City of Phoenix.  The participant logs the time spent on patrol, which also counts toward our required criteria for an award of the grant. Every hour that EACH member spends on a BW activity (including attending meetings) counts toward our grant award requirement.  Membership in Hunters Village/Tapestry BW is simple – and free! Simply show up at a future BW meeting, introduce yourself and sign the registration form available at each meeting.

The Hunters Village subdivision was created in 1977. (See Declaration of Restrictions: https://recorder.maricopa.gov/recdocdata/getrecdatadetail.aspx?rec=19770361226).
